The Ottawa Climate Action Fund is pleased to announce the launch of a second phase of analysis focused in the decarbonization opportunities for the Kanata North Tech Park, Canada’s largest technology park.
This work, undertaken in collaboration with Hydro Ottawa and the Kanata North Business Association, will focus in on meeting the growing energy needs of the Tech Park while addressing the sustainability and energy resiliency priorities of the businesses located in Kanata North.
The phase of analysis will be led by Power Advisory LLC, one of Canada’s leading consultants supporting both utilities and their customers in their ambitious plans to transition to a clean energy future. Power Advisory will be supported by CPCS, RathCo and members of the University of Ottawa’s Kanata North campus.
This work builds upon an initial study led by OCAF focused on the economic and resulting energy growth potential in the Kanata North Tech Park.
“OCAF is excited to be embarking on this deeper phase of analysis, driving towards practical decarbonization pathways for the Tech Park,” says OCAF’s Executive Director, Cherise Burda. “This work will be a fantastic showcase that economic growth and decarbonization can be complimentary goals, and the opportunities for innovation are ripe in a location like Kanata North.”
Bryce Conrad, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro Ottawa, states: “As the energy landscape evolves, our priority remains providing the reliable and sustainable power necessary to fuel Ottawa’s economy. By partnering on this second phase of analysis, Hydro Ottawa is reinforcing its commitment to building a resilient, future-ready grid. Helping our community transition to a low-carbon future isn’t just about meeting targets; it’s about empowering our local businesses to lead the way in the global green economy.”
“Kanata North is both an economic engine for Canada, and a global technology powerhouse,” adds Kelly Daize, Executive Director of the Kanata North Business Association. “We are thrilled to collaborate with OCAF and Hydro Ottawa on a revolutionary approach to energy demands. Companies today require more power than ever before. Through this partnership, we will find and action a solution that provides on-demand, green, and high-quality power to our members. This impact will catalyze the growth and scale of Canada’s Largest Technology Park and set the blueprint for what a future-proof tech ecosystem looks like.”
